Tuen Ng Festival, also known as Dragon Boat Festival, commemorates the death of Qu Yuan. He was a very loyal official but the ruler did not listen to his advice. Instead, he trusted another official with intention to harm Qu Yuan. To prove his loyalty, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river. To scare away fishes and prevent them from eating his body, people would beat drums and throw rice-and-meat dumplings into the river. Today, this tradition is carried on and the festival is remembered by
Chinese people around the world. On Tuen Ng Festival, people will eat rice-and-meat dumplings and beat drums while having dragon boat races.
Please note that we are closed for a day on Tuen Ng Festival, 9th June. Enjoy your rice-and-meat dumplings! See you soon.
